Radio Show

I was on talk radio 1300AM this morning!
We were promoting the classes that I teach at Omni Fitness on State Street in Albany.
I suppose it's pointless to mention after the fact,
but if you're reading this blog, there's a good chance you've heard it from me before...

Thanks to Marcia for this link to an article about Pilates in a Yoga magazine.

Moving forward while standing still...

...or standing still while moving forward-
A great reflection on life in general, especially applicable for Pilates.
We should be able to stop on a dime in Pilates (freeze tag?)-
gather a sense of where our bodies are in space,
and be aware of where we intend to go.

...On restriction...

For years, I have had students who have come to Pilates from a Yoga background. Some of these students take issue with the "tension" in my language. "Corseting/buttoning/lift"

... For every engagement of a muscle in the body to produce movement, there is a corresponding release of a muscle that performs the opposite movement...

By restricting breath movement in certain places (esp front ribs and belly) we are trying to encourage the inhalation to go into other places (collarbones/spine/shoulder blades and back ribs)

Exercise Guidelines

Every once and a while someone comes out with some new research on how much time we should spend exercising a week. Pretty consistently this comes out to about 3 hours a week.

Fall is fast approaching

Hey everyone-
I have reorganized class to be a 10 week session. Plan is one fall, one spring, one summer.
Different classes in different locations will be on different schedules. Hopefully, I will have a web page up in the next few weeks with a general schedule for class. I will hand out the specific schedule to each class. Picture is for your contemplation- We're always working towards creating the most efficient and intentional posture possible- labeled above as "Ideal alignment"
